When the budget is too tight for running the household, let alone the holiday season, we must focus on the true meaning of Christmas rather than the commercialization that we have been smothered in thanks to the media, advertising and online social sites.
The very first Christmas, a small baby was born to Mary and Joseph, in a little stable as there was no room in Bethlehem for them to stay. In my experience, babies come unwrapped, they're home made and are very precious! There was no time or money for trimmings and feasts, but it was so special that angels announced it to a group of shepherds, who promptly went to visit the newborn King!
As mothers, we are shepherds of our children and we need to remember the old adage - "if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" If we worry that we cannot provide a Christmas with all the trimmings, our children will feel that worry and stress. Instead, we need to focus on bringing back the true of meaning of Christmas and bring joy and peace to our homes. The less money we have to spend on gifts, decorations and feasts, the more we can invest in giving our children a Christmas Spirit that will last the whole year through. This might seem like a such a small thing, but as our children grow, they will reap the benefits of the time and effort you put into making a potentially difficult time, something they will have fond memories of and treasure forever.
I will endeavour to post something every day to help make our homes feel a lot more Christmassy without spending a lot of money. I will be trying to include the kids so that they can build happy memories and so they will hopefully not notice that the number of gifts will be decidedly less than in previous years.
